Mike Parker and Jacob Myhre headline in the cast of The Giver!

The Giver is based on the book of the same title, which won the 1994 Newberry Medal and sold more than 10 million copies. Written by Lois Lowry in 1993, it transports us to a utopian future society where pain and strife have been eliminated by “sameness” and all memories of life before Sameness have been removed from everyone in the Community.

Except The Receiver.

We follow the story of The Receiver, Jonas (played by Jacob Myhre), as he inherits the position of the Receiver of Memory. His job is to receive the memories of the community from The Giver (played by Mike Parker) and then to guide the decisions of The Elders in the Community.

As Jonas begins to receive the memories of the community, his experience and understanding grow. He begins to struggle with emotions and concepts that are far beyond his experience. He experiences the beauty of a rainbow and the joy of riding a sled on snow. He receives the painful memories of war and starvation.
He begins to understand the tremendous price The Community paid when it chose Sameness and Climate Control to these memories of the past.
