Worship Theology

Theology is a system of study (or thought) which provides a context from which we can consider and apply what we learn about specific subjects related to God’s kingdom. Such a system of study can be focused on any number of topics: Christian Discipleship, Servanthood Ministry, Communion, Baptism, Church Government, and so forth. Each of those subjects, along with many others, can then be understood within its own theological framework of systematic theology.

This site was designed to help you with your personal study of the various aspects of worship. It is certainly not intended to be a scholarly work. Nor is what’s stated meant to be considered as absolute or arbitrary in terms of how Scripture is interpreted and applied. It is however based on principles and precepts from the Word of God as we understand them.

Our theology of worship has evolved from personal study outworked in our lives and in leading corporate congregational worship over the last 30+ years. It is a work-in progress.

We have two goals in mind for presenting this material:

1. Provide a way for others to know what our beliefs are in matters or praise & worship
2. Provide resources for others to use in their own personal and corporate study

Along with the Bible, there are many sermons, articles, commentaries, and books which have helped to shape our theology of worship. They will be quoted, or referenced from time to time in what follows. There is also a resource link provided for those of you who are seeking source materials. These resources have been instrumental in helping to develop an understanding of what it means to worship God, “in spirit and in truth” (Jn.4:23).

We were created to offer our lives as “living sacrifices” to our Creator (Acts 17:28  / Rom.12:1/Col.3:17). With that in mind, a study of such an awe-filled topic seems appropriate for those who gather with us at Springhouse Worship and Arts Center (and in other fellowships as well) to worship our Lord, Christ Jesus, through the leading, the power, and the purpose of the Holy Ghost. To that end we dedicate this site to God’s glory.

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” (Hab. 2:14)

Selah,
